Patchouli
Just about everyone recognizes Patchouli. It is a fragrance that is intimately associated with the sixties. But it has been used in perfumery work for far longer than that and is in many classic perfume recipes.
Patchouli is actually in the mint family. The scent of a good Patchouli is not minty however, it is more like the earth, like rich soil. It is a good base note, and acts as a modifier as well, rounding out the sharpness that can sometimes occur when oils are blended. It is often used in combination with Frankincense and Labdanum as part of a base note composition.
Magically, Patchouli is often used for drawing money. It is also connected with healing as it has antiseptic properties. Saturn is its planetary association, and it is of the Earth element.
